The plot had some nice twists and revelations, and even if I saw a couple coming, the emotion of those scenes was engaging. Fitz at times came across a little too stoic but then again, he was modeled after Darcy so I guess it's appropriate. Lastly, the grief theme that is woven in these pages is heart wrenching and feels so raw and vulnerable. Slown burn full of tension and angst had me turning the pages quickly to find out what would happen next, not only with the mystery, but for their relationship too. Highly recommend to any Austen lovers who also enjoy fantasy, mystery, and love a swoony romance without all the spice! So maybe it's not entirely that it's "too clean" somehow, but that we don't really get to see them come together.

The characters, the mystery, the slow burn tension, and world building are immersive and spell bounding. If Schade is going to go to the trouble of including them into her book, at least give them a task to fulfill.
