About this deal

HyperX claims up to 33 hours of battery life for the Cloud MIX Buds; this is slightly misleading in the way all companies are slightly misleading about the battery life of true wireless earbuds, because it includes the charging case. While we’re talking about deluxe, the 3.5mm plug actually sports a shiny gold plating, intended to prevent rust from forming. It’s quite interesting to see in which areas HyperX chose to put in the more lavish details. Comfort The Cloud Earbuds when worn Yet, the Battle Buds also have in-line volume controls, which is an essential tool in gaming. This is a key feature missing from the Cloud Earbuds. Next are the earbud casings themselves. Inside, you’ll find 14 mm dynamic drivers, but more on sound later. HyperX has included 3 different sized silicone patented ear tips. They’ve been made in an almost ‘wedge-shape style’ so removal from the ear canal is made easier. It’s a pity that HyperX has not included any foam ear tips, but the included tips still provide a comfortable experience.

There are no buttons on the inline controls for volume or muting. You’d have to do it manually on whichever device you’re using, which is quite a drag, especially during intense gameplay. HyperX’s NGENUITY has been — will be? — updated for the Cloud MIX Buds. The iOS app is available now but I wasn’t able to get the Windows app to update and/or recognize the earbuds. The software isn’t amazing, but it does offer a couple of useful settings and features. HyperX chose to stay faithful to its signature colors and added its logo on each earbud. This makes them stand out quite a bit. Any pro gamer can take one look at these IEMs and will know intuitively that they’re meant for gaming. Before I get into audio quality, let me mention what a difficult process it was to even get to a point where I was able to assess audio quality.

I still would’ve preferred the braided nylon cables that are common in gaming headphones, but the rubber material of the cable seems sturdy enough. Over time, its color will probably fade though. Since then, HyperX has been providing a variety of PC, console, and wireless headsets that meet the rigorous demands of gamers, which give them the winning edge and help them stay on top of their game. One of the biggest reasons for using gaming earbuds over gaming headphones is their lightweight structure. Headphones can be cumbersome and, after a few hours of gaming, they can put a strain on your ears. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds weigh just 0.67 ounces and are a perfect option for those looking for mobility and long-term comfort. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds has been marketed for the Nintendo Switch and mobile gaming. It is rather surprising that they have not included any volume controls, which can be a deal-breaker for some. Although you can adjust the volume on the device you’re using, it would have been nice to see this feature included. One major difference between the Cloud Earbuds and the Turtle Beach Battle Buds is the removable boom mic. This is a unique design feature that really makes the Battle Buds stand out in the competition. But the boom mic advantage seems to end at the design. Compared to the HyperX Cloud Earbuds, the Battle Buds’ boom mic actually falls short in quality because of the echo and high sensitivity.Next, we went with a classic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which would be slower-paced and more immersive. Upon entering a nearby tavern, the music sung by a bard was clear and the instruments were not piercing to the ear. The sound was well-rounded and could even be compared to that of headphones. What’s in the Box? There are two ways to connect the Cloud MIX Buds to a device: 2.4 -GHz wireless and Bluetooth. Both are fairly straightforward — the wireless dongle is already paired to the earbuds, so all you should have to do is plug the dongle in and the earbuds will automatically connect when you remove them from the charging case. However, the voices of my teammates came in clearly, and in-game sounds such as footsteps had some weight to them. Determining the position of your enemies came quite easily, which I found to be impressive, though it could’ve been much more with a surround sound feature. Microphone Quality A little more versatility with an included Y-cable would have been preferable, but for handheld gaming consoles, they work just fine. Build Quality In an effort to achieve total sound isolation, I turned the volume up to the maximum level, but this resulted in major sound leakage. Anyone around you is sure to hear whatever game you’re playing.
