About this deal

no no no šŸ˜šŸ˜© i wanted to love this so bad but i just didnā€™t really. i HATED the animal cruelty in this book (not just about the fox but the whole digging out the bush baby scene) and even though in the end even if the fox was saved, it was still meh šŸ˜ i couldnā€™t stand the weird, insensitive discussion and comments about Hazeline being an ā€œover-eaterā€ and ā€œbeing fatā€ and that her boyfriend would only marry her if she lost 20 pounds??? thatā€™s just not a message to have in a childrenā€™s book!!! šŸ˜© Horror Show - EP by The Midnight on Apple Music". Apple Music. 19 March 2021 . Retrieved April 7, 2021. Betsy attended public schools in North Carolina and graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC with a major in English. She began her writing career five years after her graduation by publishing short magazine articles. As she began to read to her children, her interest in writing for young people began. The descriptions of settings and of country values are coherent, vivid and unusual. A city reader is taken into the smells and tastes of the country. This book looks through kids' eyes. Kids don't want to be dumped by their parents for two months. City kids don't necessarily want to go to the country. They don't want to leave their friends to stay with people they hardly know. This book respects that children have their own lives independent of their family life. I like that.

Adjusting to life in the country is hard for city boy Tom. But, when he discovers a fox and her cubs living in the forest, he is captivated and determined to protect them. When his own Uncle decides to go after the fox, Tom needs to think fast to save the animals he has come to love. A touching and exciting story of the power of vulnerable animals to capture the heart of a boy. In the text it coveys many diverse themes, but two main themes are what it means to be human and relationships between humans and wildlife. Betsy Byars used various techniques to help this shine through in the novel such as imagery, emotive language, descriptive language and similies. This is what makes it a classic american novel. a b Tausi New VHS Technologist (20 April 2017). "The Midnight Live Stream Video, April 10/2017"ā€“ via YouTube. Although The Midnight Fox has not won any major awards in its own right, it is often described as Betsy Byars most enduring work. In her career, she wrote over sixty-five books which have been translated into nineteen languages. In 1987 Byars received the Regina Medal for lifetime achievement from the Catholic Library Association. For city boy Tom, adjusting to life in the country is hard. But, when he discovers a fox and her cubs living in the forest, he is fascinated and determined to protect them. Then Uncle Fred decides to go after the fox. Will Tom save her and her family in time? It's safe to say I didn't have any sort of expectations. From the name and cover, it looked like it was going to be a bit twee and without much merit, but I was pleasantly surprised, as I mentioned. It's definitely Michael Morpurgo-esque (although as it might predate him, I guess that should be the other way around), and I mean that in a good way. It's a story about a slightly troubled child and a bond with an animal, as many of his are, but there is also some real emotion in the book. i enjoyed Tom and Petieā€™s friendship but overall, it wasnā€™t enough to save the book. as well as that, i feel like there wasnā€™t enough exploration into Tom and his fascination with the midnight fox which i was so excited for :( this also meant that the overarching ā€œwider meaningā€ of the book got lost. The Midnight Fox written by Besty Byars is a novel that conveys two main themes; what it means to be human and relationships between humans and wildlife. The protagonist Tom shows several elements of what it means to be human. Tom shows throughout the novel maturity, taking risks and anguish and negative talk. 'The midnight fox' shows relationships between humans and wildlife through descriptive language, imagery and similies. The book is about a boy called Tom who spends time on his uncleā€™s farm. He goes to the woods near the house and sees the prettiest fox he has ever seen and it has a cub! There is just one problemā€¦ his uncle is trying to hunt the fox and his cub! Tom has to try to save the fox and its cub!

A very hard book to rate. There was such depressing animal cruelty in this book which was of course completely realistic of the time this was set. Without this awful treatment of animals and the way Hazeline's engagement was broken off because it was in common agreement she need to lose a stone or more, this would have been a 4:or 5 star. I loved the relationship between Tommy and Petie, their friendship was wonderful, I loved their love of reading, their letters to each other and the way that although Tommy was bored at first, his boredom led him to discover new wonders. Suitable for children working towards/at the expected standard in Y5/6, the questions are closely linked to the National Curriculum and therefore adequately develop their comprehension skills. It can be used as a guided reading text, an assessment piece or as an introduction to the text in general. The Midnight Fox was first published in 1968, and is recommended for readers over the age of nine. With their beautiful new reprint, Faber & Faber believe that ā€˜This enchanted tale will capture the hearts and imagination of children and adults alikeā€™. Renataā€™s wren encounter proves magical, one most children could only wish to experience outside of this lovely story. The band's motto is " mono no aware" ( ē‰©ć®å“€ć‚Œ), a Japanese phrase that loosely translates to "a sense of nostalgic wistfulness and the awareness that nothing lasts forever". [9]

Betsy Byars (nĆ©e Cromer; 1928 ā€“2020), an American author of children's books, says The Midnight Fox is her favourite of all her books. It was also the first book she put parts of her own life into, using headlines that came from some Betsy and her sister wrote as girls and things that her own dog had done. A animal adventure story that has remained popular over the decades and is still often read in schools today.

She has won many awards. Among them are the Newbery Medal in 1971 for her novel T he Summer of the Swans, the American Book Award in 1981 for The Night Swimmers, The Edgar (for the best mystery for young people) in 1992 for Wanted..Mud BlossomĀ and the Regina Medal by the Catholic Library Association for the body of her work. She especially values her many state awards which were voted on by the readers of the state. Byars was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 7, 1928. Unlike many of the characters in her books, Byars grew up in a normal, loving family. Her father was an engineer and worked as a bookkeeper in a cotton mill. He was stern and hardworking and had a strong sense of humor. Her mother was a lively woman who loved acting and music. Byars's sister, Nancy, two years older, was sometimes an inspiration and sometimes an evil nemesis. Byars's personal experiences and observations, and those of her children, are the sources of much of her fiction. As a child, she lived part of the time in the country and part of the time in the city, so she had a variety of experiences. She has vivid memories of her school years and of teachers, friends, and bullies. Many of them show up in her fiction.

These don't happen very often in real life, but they do happen, and that's what this was. Like the time Petie and I were walking down the alley behind his house and there, on top of this lady's garbage, we saw a mayonnaise jar full of marbles ā€“ not just cats Eye marbles but all different kinds, kinds I had never seen before. Petie and I turned them all out on the grass and first Petie chose one and then I chose one until they were all gone. And both of us right now, today, have every single one of those marbles. That was the way I likeD to get a book. I did not like to open a bookcase, especially with someone watching, and know that I had to take one, HAD to. Rounded characters speak convincing dialogue. I am charmed when Mom chides Tommy, 'You don't try to like new things' and Tommy answers, 'You shouldn't have to try to like new things.' I understand both of them.
