About this deal

The Call Of Cassandra Rose was a god send, came at the right time for Annabelle, it was the answer to her hell .... or was it!? Simon and Cassandra dance to the song "Lover" before he kisses her. The song then takes on a special significance for her, and she hears it again when Neil and Rose are dancing together in London.

The novel relates the adventures of an eccentric family, the Mortmains, struggling to live in genteel poverty in a decaying castle during the 1930s. The first-person narrator is Cassandra Mortmain, an intelligent teenager who tells the story through her journal. It is a coming-of-age story in which Cassandra passes from being a girl at the beginning to being a young woman at the end. At their first meeting the Cottons are amused and interested by the Mortmains. When they pay a call the very next day, however, the inexperienced Rose flirts openly with Simon and makes herself look ridiculous. Both brothers are repelled by this display and, as they walk away, Cassandra overhears them resolving to drop all acquaintance with the Mortmains. After an amusing episode involving a fur coat, however, all is forgiven and the two families become good friends. Rose decides that she really is taken with Simon, and Cassandra and Topaz scheme to get Simon to propose to her. Simon falls in love with Rose and proposes to her.It feels familiar in the way that this has highly unreliable narrators, but the plot is twisty enough not to feel like its all been done before. Kay O. Netgalley.com reviewer ★★★★★ “Holy crap! I devoured this! Couldn’t put it down! I was riveted by Annabelle and then her relationship with her therapist. Chilling and full of twists. This book is so good and I don’t want to give any of it away.” There are intense references to self-harming, something which Annabelle struggles with, but these add to the tension and are handled sensitively by the author. When he starts to try to write a new book Mr Mortmain considers the theme of Noah's Ark, but finally decides not to use a biblical theme again. Pros: first half was fantastic - writing was on point, emotions were emoting, the suspense was suspenseful... loved the hypnotherapy sessions, very interesting (cannot comment on the accuracy)

When she meets the alluring and charismatic hypnotherapist Cassandra Rose, she is offered a way out. I found the relationship between Annabelle and Cassandra realistic and could understand why Annabelle would have trusted Cassandra. At about 40% into the book, I start to question Cassandra and her hypnotherapy process. And after hearing the story of how Matt and Annabelle met, it’s hard to picture her as the meek, self-harming character the author portrays. What happened to the self-assured and spunky woman? Whilst it's a bit slow in parts, there's still plenty of suspense to keep you reading with a twist you didn't see coming! Annabelle has had a tough life, but now feels safe and secure, with her own family. However, she's quite certain her husband is having an affair. She's drinking a lot more lately, and there's a memory she can't quite reach, which is making sure she has nightmares every night. Then, like fate, a leaflet falls through the door for a hypnotherapist, Cassandra Rose. Glamorous and confident, she's everything Annabelle needs and wants to become. But does Cassandra really have Annabelle's best interests at heart? This twisty thriller is filled with an abundance of nasty and deceitful characters that will keep you on your toes!

After Disney released the film rights to the novel in the late 1990s, Heidi Thomas wrote a screen adaptation. [4] This resulted in a 2003 feature film directed by Tim Fywell for BBC Films. It starred Romola Garai as Cassandra. There was a lot of suspense and the story was really unusual and intriguing. I find patient and therapist thrillers really interesting and this didn't disappoint.

This book is like a reminder to you that you cant always escape your past and sometimes the journey through it is more healing. I was surprised to see aspects of how well the topic of self-harm was handled here and how the feeling is. I thought that Cassandra was going to be a beacon of light, but as things progressed their relationship became more dark and twisted.
