About this deal

Radian B muscle lotion contains menthol, camphor, ammonium salicylate and a mixture of methyl and ethyl esters of salicylic acid. The lotion works by reducing inflammation and by causing counter-irritation in the area where it is applied, which helps to soothe pain in the underlying tissues. Camphor, methyl salicylate and ethyl salicylate are also counter-irritants. When applied to the skin they cause cause redness and a sensation of heat to be produced. This distracts the brain from the original pain and therefore reduces the perception of pain.

The mechanism may be due to a combined local effect as well as inhibition of prostaglandins leading to decreased integrity of the GI lining. Don't cover the treated area of skin immediately after you have applied the cream; allow it a little time to be absorbed. Salicylates are derivatives of aspirin. They have an anti-inflammatory effect. When applied to the skin they are absorbed into the underlying tissues, where they reduce pain and inflammation in the local area. It is very well absorbed orally and the peak serum concentration can be attained in 1 to 2 hours after extravascular administration. When ibuprofen is administered immediately after a meal there is a slight reduction in the absorption rate but there is no change in the extent of the absorption. Respiratory: bronchospasm may be precipitated in patients suffering from or with a previous history of bronchial asthma or allergic disease.

Radian B is a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme invovled in prostaglandin synthesis via the arachidonic acid pathway. Its pharmacological effects are believed to be due to inhibition cylooxygenase-2 (COX-2) which decreases the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in mediating inflammation, pain, fever and swelling. Antipyretic effects may be due to action on the hypothalamus, resulting in an increased peripheral blood flow, vasodilation, and subsequent heat dissipation. Inhibition of COX-1 is thought to cause some of the side effects of ibuprofen including GI ulceration. Radian B is administered as a racemic mixture. The R-enantiomer undergoes extensive interconversion to the S-enantiomerin vivo. The S-enantiomer is believed to be the more pharmacologically active enantiomer. People with an intolerance to aspirin, ibuprofen or other related painkillers (NSAIDs) taken by mouth. Take care to avoid getting the cream in the eyes, mouth or nose, or on the face or sensitive areas of skin such as the genitals. If you accidentally get the cream on these areas wash it off immediately with plenty of water. mg per kg body weight daily in divided doses. Radian B is rapidly metabolized and eliminated in the urine thus, this via accounts for more than 90% of the administered dose. It is completely eliminated in 24 hours after the last dose and almost all the administered dose goes through metabolism, representing about 99% of the eliminated dose. The biliary excretion of unchanged drug and active phase II metabolites represents 1% of the administered dose. Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine. Adults and adolescents over 14 years should squeeze 5 to 10cm of the gel from the tube and rub this gently into the affected area until the gel is absorbed. Ingestion of the product or excessive use may also lead to camphor poisoning, the symptoms of which include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, dizziness, oropharyngeal burning, delirium, muscle twitching, epileptiform convulsions, CNS depression and coma. Breathing is difficult and the breath has a characteristic odour; anuria may occur. Death from respiratory failure or status epilepticus may occur; fatalities in children have been recorded from 1 g. Supportive care, including anticonvulsant therapy, is the mainstay of treatment of camphor intoxication. Gastric lavage may be considered if the patient presents within 1 hour of ingestion; any convulsions must be controlled first. Activated charcoal may be given orally.

Patients should be counseled on this potential interaction and advised to refrain from alcohol consumption while taking aspirin or NSAIDs. Radian B Hypertension interaction Serious skin reactions, some of them fatal, including exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis have been reported rarely in association with the use of NSAIDs (see section 4.8). Patients appear to be at highest risk of these reactions early in the course of therapy, the onset of the reaction occurring in the majority of cases within the first month of treatment. Acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) has been reported in relation to ibuprofen-containing products. Ibuprofen should be discontinued, at the first appearance of signs and symptoms of severe skin reactions, such as skin rash, mucosal lesions, or any other sign of hypersensitivity. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream to avoid getting it in your eyes or transferring it to sensitive areas of skin. Apply the lotion on the affected part once or twice, leaving 10-15 minutes between applications. Smooth in or massage if preferred. Acidosis may increase salicylate transfer across the blood brain barrier. Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways.
