About this deal

According to the oberwerk comparison chart, the 12x60 are operating at 90% of their objective size- so 54 mm Usually, binoculars with larger lenses, such as 10x50 and 12x50 are more expensive than the alternative 10x42 binoculars. The question remains why?

EL 12x50 binoculars provide even more details thanks to their 12x magnification. Their ideal weight balance means that they fit perfectly in your hand – brilliant for lengthy periods of observation over long distances. It’s better in this regard than any of my other favourites: the Swarovski Habicht Porros in 8x30, 7x42 and 10x40; the Leica Ultravid HD 7x42, and; the Zeiss Victory FL 7x42 of features found on the central focus Nikon 12x50 Premier SE Binocular is a exclusive eyepiece design that offers The 12x magnification alone means inherent unsteadiness compared with 10x rivals. What's more, at 36.8 oz/1kg, it's necessary to employ a few tried and tested techniques to keep their clean, crisp and bright views still enough to properly appreciate, not least of all the possibility of mounting them on a tripod. However, the Nikon Action EX 12x50 remains a heavyweight in all regards, with excellent outdoorsy build quality and reliable optics that make them highly recommended. If the Nikon Action EX 12x50 binoculars aren't for you:I tried the Meopta 12X50, nice optics, however the ER and shape of the eye-cups did not work for me. I have the 12X50 UVHD, a great glass for both terrestrial viewing and hand held astro. I do not wear glasses, if I did, they would not work for me due to the lower ER. It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so. The trade-off here is a slightly narrower field of view (of about 4.8°), which makes them slightly less than ideal for using at night to search star-fields and constellations in the night sky. However, in practice the Celestron Nature DX ED 12x50 performs really well at night, with the Andromeda galaxy looking sharp and well defined. Ditto the crescent Moon, which looked clean with no sign of purplish fringing – thanks to that ED glass. Slightly more powerful than most large binoculars and nicely priced, the Nikon Action EX 12x50 are impressive and good value. We had a lot of success with these binoculars during the night and day, but they are more substantial than most rivals. Their extra bulk may put a lot of potential users off, but the 12x magnification is worth it if you want to get closer-in to distant objects and animals.

Um, if you divide 60 into 10 parts, you get 6. and if you say take away one of those ten parts (which is equal to six) from 60, you get 54. I've done the light/laser test and it's true that they are truly 12x54s. In a good chair with head and elbows supported 12x would be great, but not flatfooted and freehanded. The Ultravids have the now-usual Schmidt- Pechan (a.k.a. Roof) prisms, not the mirror-less Abbe-König

Instruments using poor quality optics and coatings, just like the quality of glass used to make windows in houses, will not perform as well as higher quality ones.
