About this deal

We measured salt, sugar, and cooking oil with this set. The underside of the handles is slightly contoured, which we find comfortable to grip, but this may not be the case with larger hands. The spoons are wide and shallow, which is sufficient for dry ingredients, but liquids easily sloshed over the sides when we weren't careful. The bowl of each spoon has a bit of a rim, which makes it tougher to accurately level dry ingredients compared to other sets. If you’re after a fancy set of measuring spoons that will look good if left out on display, try Crate & Barrel's Maeve Dipped Ceramic set. Modern with a rustic feel, these spoons are sure to bring out the Julia Childs in you. Four different-sized spoons come in the set, and each spoon’s handle is dip-dyed in a refreshing color (navy blue, mustard yellow, aqua, and coral). The spoons have holes in their handles so you can attach a loop or lanyard, and can easily be washed in the dishwasher.

My favorite measuring spoon is a white porcelain tablespoon with blue trim," says Alpers. "I don’t remember where I got it and the rest of the set broke over the years. It’s the one measuring spoon I reach for first. It’s smooth and cool to the touch and I love how the while color offsets whatever it holds."This piece was updated by Jenny Kellerhals, a professional pastry chef and food writer based in New York City. Jenny knows the importance of reliable tools first-hand and has a wide range of experience with professional and home-grade cooking and baking equipment. With a typical tiny NYC kitchen, only the most useful tools make the cut at home. Material: Plastic | Dishwasher Safe: Yes | Measurements: 1/8 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 3/4 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1.5 teaspoons, 2 teaspoons, 2.5 teaspoons, 1 tablespoon | Number in Set: 2

Who it’s for: People who want a measuring spoon set that will last a lifetime and won’t tip over when placed on the counter. During testing, we discovered the spoons had a nice weight to them and felt quite durable. The bowl of each spoon is deep, so liquids are easily contained, and the edge is straight and thin, which made leveling dry ingredients simple. We find the measurement markings a little tough to read, though. They're etched into the handles, but they're not as crisp as they could be, and some are darker and stand out more than others. Since these spoons are round, the larger measurements don't fit into standard spice jars. However, each spoon is made from sturdy stainless steel with a brushed finish and is dishwasher safe. The set has a stylish and minimal look, and each spoon has the measurement permanently etched onto it so it won’t wear off over time. The markings can be a little hard to read for some people since they’re not in a bright color. Depending on which set you buy (it’s available in six, seven, eight, and nine pieces) a few of the smaller spoons can fit into spice jars, whereas the larger ones and their round shape can’t get into smaller containers. However, this set topped our list of the best measuring spoons as it is versatile, durable, and reasonably priced. Who it’s for: People who prefer one clutter-free item for all measurements as opposed to a multitude of different measuring spoons. Why do we need measuring spoons, anyway? It used to be that all the great cooks would just throw in “a dash of this” or “a pinch of that,” and the food would come out perfect, right? Maybe so. But then again those cooks of the past most likely had spent many hours in the kitchen learning the few recipes they used. Today, with the standardization of recipes and correct ways to measure ingredients, if you really want to get ta recipe as close to its best, then you've got to use measuring spoons. The spoons are attached with a simple, effective clip that can easily open if you want to remove just a single spoon. This design also makes for hassle-free use of a single spoon when the whole bundle is attached. Finally, in comparison to other plastic measuring implements, these spoons hold up surprisingly well to drops, resistant ingredients, and washes in hot water. While these are picturesque, the range of sizes is fairly basic. The four spoons start at 1/2 teaspoon and go up to 1 tablespoon. The measurement markings are in the standard format (no milliliters here) and are handwritten on the handles. And being ceramic, they might break as Alpers's set has. All that said, they do darling and if you'll be taking photos of your bakes afterward, they'll fit right in.

Material: Stainless steel | Dishwasher Safe: Yes | Measurements: 1/8 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 3/4 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 tablespoon, 1 tablespoon | Number in Set: 7 plus leveler They’re well-made of heavy-duty BPA-free plastic, are available in beautiful matte colors, and have a soft grip added at the top of the handle. The measurements are printed in raised text on the handle in both metric and standard format, so you'll be able to use them for all your recipes, even grandma's kaju katil. The plastic ring is incredibly easy to open and the whole set can go in the dishwasher when you're done. They’re stainless steel, nest together nicely, and have magnetic handles for easy storage. Measurements in both metric and standard formats are marked in the center of the spoon on the plastic grip space, with reviewers stating that these markings stay put for years. Available in six different colors, the set also includes a handy leveler for when you get a little ambitious with your spices. There’s a wide range of materials in the measuring spoons on the market, from plastics to silicone to different metals and even ceramic. Each material has its pros and cons, but one of the most important criteria to answer in terms of material is whether something is dishwasher safe.
