About this deal

This book is solid. The core idea of Sylvaneth was always good, it just never had the right units or rules to support it. I think this takes what Sylvaneth are supposed to be good at, which is being very evasive and maneuverable while also maintaining incredible board control, and makes them much more adept. Ultimately they still won’t be doing a ton of damage since they will still cap out 14 damage and that’s if everything goes through, but they make a respectable support unit that will probably make the melee versions far more powerful again. Conclusion

We keep mentioning the “Warsong bomb” so this is it. The Warsong Revenant is a two-spell caster with an inherent +1 to cast/dispel/unbind if it’s near overgrown or awakened wyldwood terrain. This already makes it the best caster in the army, but the spell is what makes the bomb. Upon casting you roll a number of dice equal to the casting roll for each enemy unit within 9” – doing a mortal wound for each 5+ rolled. Given how treesinging works and your ability to put an awakened wyldwood within 3” of an enemy unit – this has potential to hit your opponent turn one and to push out a lot of spread damage. This is also where your ability to use 3d6-drop-lowest and reroll casts come in, to help fish for those big casting rolls. Note that a very early FAQ for this GHB means primal dice don’t add to the damage total, and neither does the +1 (an inelegant and unfortunate casualty of this otherwise needed FAQ). Command Ability: Branch Blizzard –During your shooting phase you can nominate an enemy unit within 12″ of one of your Heroes and roll a die for each model in the unit. On a 6+ deal a mortal wound. Big Trees – Treelords are great all-rounder behemoths that provide chip shooting, solid melee and control. A march of the ents style army is totally viable in competition.

Poor Alarielle has never quite gotten to a good place. I always maintained that she wasn’t bad she just cost too much. For an army with pretty weak options, she wasn’t the worst thing you could take. Well, with her score bumped up to 840 and almost no changes to her warscroll I think she finally hit the point of being too expensive to consider. The only change is a resurrection mechanic – something she really did need – which revives her on a 6+, adding a bonus to the die roll based on the battle round. Without a ward, 16 wounds is going to evaporate pretty fast if your opponent has good shooting, and then you have to trust a single 5+ roll to bail her out. She’s going to need to come down in cost or at least get a 6+ ward. Alarielle strikes out again. Crown of Fell Bowers – At the start of the combat phase you get to tag an enemy unit within 6” and your units get +1 to wound against it for that phase. Decent enough, but there’s a reasonable amount of +1 to wound already available to the army so the actual utility here is more limited. C Army Ability: Our Roots Run Deep –Subtract 2 from the wounds counter when consulting the degrading statline on Treelords or Spirits of Durthu. Laurie: Experienced Sylvaneth commanders will find that the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar is going to benefit them in a number of different ways. With changes that encourage armies to be built primarily with minimum-sized units, strong units like Kurnoth Hunters, Tree-Revenants , and Spite-Revenants will do quite well. Reinforced Dryad units still form a vital core to your army, of course, and the Awakened Wyldwood is as essential as ever. Travelling in small bands, the Kurnoth Hunters range ahead of Alarielle’s Wargroves. Some sorcery of their mother goddess lends speed and subtlety to their movements, allowing them to pass undetected through all but the most heavily guarded terrain. Then, they watch the enemy’s movements with infinite patience before choosing the perfect moment to strike. [3a]

Ironically, one of the rules that most Sylvaneth players probably forget all the time is now your most crucial one. One of the biggest complaints about playing Sylvaneth is the damned Wyldwoods. They’re large, cumbersome to transport and you needed probably at least 3 for a tournament list. This book tried to alleviate some of that pain by allowing you to mark 3 pieces of terrain to make your own forest. Finally, probably the most important buff spell is Treesong, which allows you to select an Awakened Wyldwood and then gain -1 rend on all units wholly within 9″ of it. Strong stuff if you have the board control to use it right. The Subfactions (Glades)Two squads of 10 are often used to help fill battleline, with the third being another Dryad squad or some Tree-Revenants. If you can get squads of 20 or 30 going, it’s worth considering as their saves improve to a 4+ with 20 or more models. Just be prepared to work around their a morale, as a less than stellar 6 they can flake fast if caught out in the open. Tree Revenants New profiles were added both for the new miniatures, the Gossamid Archers and the Revenant Seekers/Spiterider Lancers and an alternative weapon loadouts for the Tree-Revenant Scion for a total of 7 new fighters. You have access to a lot of healing but any healing done on your General for free, frees up healing for spells and artefacts. B- Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords [250pts]: 3 Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords, Warlord - 1-2 Troops The Dwellers Below – CV7. A 12” range nuke, this is a classic “roll a dice for every model in the unit” job, where you do a mortal wound on a 5+. If we’re still in a zombie and ghoul horde meta, this can do a decent job. Again, the range here is a bit disappointing and there are many matchups where this will yield incredibly poor results. C
