About this deal

The next step in the process is extracting the sugary liquid from the roasted cores, a job for which Casamigos uses the traditional method where a single horse rotates a large crushing wheel called a “tahona” over the cores and crushes out the liquid. The liquid is then fermented for between two to eight days to create the alcoholic liquid, allowing for the yeast to act on the sugar in the liquid and create interesting flavor combinations. That liquid is then batch distilled twice in copper pot stills to create the final raw spirit. Vanilla, raisins and oak wood are present in the taste, but they do not try to be the lead in the Patron añejo theater. The telltale peppery rush of agave is still in the drink, and is very much the dominant flavor. This is a really cool design at first glance, and I think it’s a great way to sell bottles. But the more I touch it, the less I actually like it. Prior to bottling, Clooney, Gerber, and the brand’s master distiller taste every batch to guarantee quality control. (When VinePair reached out to Casamigos to credit the unidentified master distiller, we were told: “We don’t disclose that information.”) When building their respective homes in Mexico, actor and director George Clooney and bar and restaurant tycoon Rande Gerber took the opportunity to drink as much tequila as they could get their hands on. Sitting in a bar one night, the pair reflected on all the bottles they’d sampled. Each agreed they hadn’t yet found their perfect match, and so they decided to make their own.

I’m J Highland, and for over 30 years, I’ve been deeply immersed in the captivating world of Tequila, Mezcal, and other agave spirits. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or just dipping your toes into this world, I invite you to join me as we explore the fascinating realm of these legendary spirits. Casamigos takes its name from the property on which Clooney and Gerber built their Mexico homes. The development is owned by Meldman and the name roughly translates to “house of friends.” If you’re interested in discovering more options, I invite you to read my post on the Best Sipping Mezcals for further recommendations. The history of the mezcal is tightly knit to their tequila. When Clooney and his friend Gerber came up with Casamigos, they intended to produce tequila to their taste. The plan was not to make money with it, but they merely enjoyed the idea of making a spirit to their personal preference. They named their brand Casamigos, a combination of the words casaand amigos, meaning houseand friends- house of friends.

Casamigos tequila price is very reasonable considering its quality, ingredients, manufacturing and celebrity names behind it! We'll discuss the history, pricing, comparisons and more! Introduction to Casa Migos Solo-Lyons, Natasha. "Rande Gerber told us how he made Casamigos a billion-dollar tequila brand with hands-on leadership and no yes-men". Business Insider. George Clooney's Casamigos Tequila named fastest-growing spirits brand". The Drinks Business. August 1, 2022. Considering its characteristics, the price of Casamigos may be deemed a bit steep, leading me to prefer several other mezcal brands. The mezcal is carefully crafted using time-honored techniques, including slow-roasting the agave piñas in underground pits, stone milling, natural fermentation, and double distillation in copper pot stills. Pros & Cons Pros

Their mezcal is not on the same level. Maybe, if they put some more work into the recipe and production, I could change my mind. But right now, it is nowhere near the quality of their tequila. Conclusion Casamigos Mezcal is a Joven Mezcal made of 100% espadin agaves and is a brand founded by George Clooney and his buddy Rande Gerber in 2013. Before they launched their Joven Mezcal, Casamigos already had three different types of Tequila- A Blanco, a Reposado, and an Añejo expression. Creation Processes: The Consejo Regulador del Mezcal (CRM) recognizes three categories of mezcal based on production: Mezcal, Mezcal Artesanal and Mezcal Ancestral. Most high-end brands use Artesanal or Ancestral processes, which involve the ground pits and clay or copper stills we mentioned earlier. However, we’ve also highlighted some fantastic brands that use the more industrial Mezcal process. The distinct character of espadín agaves contributes to the rich and diverse world of mezcal, making them a cherished and vital component in this revered Mexican spirit. Where is it produced?Qualitywise this spirit is mid-shelf, but price-wise it's within the league of exceptional mezcal bottles. If you're keen on trying it, I would highly recommend not buying a whole bottle but trying it in a bar or a tasting first.

First, we tried the mezcal in a classic Mezcal Margarita. I was surprised that the smoky notes of the spirit doesn't shine through as much as I expected. However, in combination with Cointreau and fresh lime juice, there was an excellent balance of flavors and enough earthy smokiness to balance the tart flavors. combination Aging: Although most of the “aging” with mezcal refers to the age of the agave plant, some are also aged like other spirits. Like tequila, mezcal uses the Joven, Reposado and Añejo aging classifications. Joven is usually aged less than two months, reposado is aged two months to a year, and Añejo is anything aged more than one year — you’ll find varieties for all flavor preferences on this list. My journey has seen me as an owner of sophisticated bars and renowned liquor shops, and even as a Mezcal distiller, honing the craft from scratch. Much like every tequila producer, Casamigos gets its blue weber agave piñas from the red clay soil and relatively cool climate of Jalisco (Mexico). While this affects the overall price of Casamigos tequila, the owners have managed to keep costs reasonable.

Overall, the nose of the spirit is relatively thin. You get some delicate notes of agave, mineral nuances, and herbal tones of fresh mint. However, they mainly disappear behind minty herbal notes, cedar wood, smoke, and a hint of clay. If you let it sit for a while and let it breathe by swirling it in the glass, the spirit develops some slightly fruity notes. And you can detect an ever-so-slight hint of tropical fruits like papaya. But, as I said, that only happens once you let it breathe for a while. Although a relative newcomer to the tequila scene, Casamigos is no stranger to making a mark among both casual drinkers and tequila connoisseurs alike.

Casamigos also boasts of its processes used to make its mezcal variant. Launched in early 2018 as its first mezcal, Casamigos Mezcal has purely Espadin agave from Oaxaca (Mexico). This unique idea and the unique process of making the bottles ensure that no two bottles are the same. Brand History The insights I’ve gained aren’t just from books or hearsay; they are the result of hands-on experience, countless tastings, and an enduring passion for these spirits. Ozzy Osbourne Reveals He May Never Perform Live Again: 'Not Going Up There in a F--king Wheelchair' While Casamigos Mezcal serves as a decent entry point into Mezcal, other more compelling options are available for exploration. And since their tequila is of excellent quality, I took the chance to try and review Casamigos Mezcal Joven and compare their tequila to mezcal. Plus, I also tested it in some mezcal drink recipes. Casamigos Mezcal Joven Review Summary The brand was founded by George Clooney (yes, the actor George Clooney), Rande Gerber (a nightlife entrepreneur, known more as the significant other of supermodel Cindy Crawford) and property developer Michael Meldman. Originally meant for private consumption between the trio while their Cabo San Lucas (Mexico) vacation homes were being built, the trio tried different tequilas for some time until Clooney came up with the idea to make their own alcoholic drink. The aromas coming off the glass are richer and smokier than the usual tequilas we’ve seen from Casamigos: there’s some deep cedar wood, a wisp of smoke, some earthy clay, and then just a tiny hint of lemon zest citrus. It smells like a campfire that went out a few hours ago. I am also getting a bit of sulfur in there, but that seems to be an intentional component instead of a distillation fault.
