About this deal

Cider is made from apple juice pressed from freshly harvested apples when in season. The fresh juice is slowly fermented and aged at the direction of the Cidermaker to give each cider its unique complexity and character, it is only ready to drink when the Cidermaker is happy with the quality of the batch. Still cider is served as it is but will always contain a level of natural level of residual carbon dioxide from the fermentation. Sparkling Ciders contain higher levels to give it a pleasurable fizz. Bottle conditioned ciders contain the highest levels of carbonation similar to sparkling wines. For fourteen generations the Brother’s Cider family has strived to make light and refreshing ciders whilst also using a variety of fruit. The family has been creating cider of many different flavours since 1658. In 1842 the Brother’s cider family opened their first pub in Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

Our recent performance in the UK and internationally is very encouraging and we are extremely grateful to our customers and consumers for choosing Brothers. Our job is to listen to them and keep producing interesting and quality ciders that taste great and add value to their businesses and drinking occasions. Brothers Drinks Co is one of the largest and most capable cider producers in the UK, so we are well placed to continue this growth and are ambitious to do so.” Some love dry, sparkling ciders and others love the trendier flavoured ciders that come in a range of popular or nostalgic flavours, just like the Brothers Cider range that features classics like Cloudy Lemon, Rhubarb & Custard, Pink Grapefruit, Red Apple, Strawberry & Lime, Honeycomb, Marshmallow, Toffee Apple Cider, and more... The flavoured cider producer saw year-on-year sales increase by 69% for the 52 weeks to June. This follows its momentum in 2019 when it was the fastest growing cider brand in the on and off-trade according to CGA and IRI, and the company, Brothers Drinks Co, was the fastest growing cider producer in the UK off-trade.Cider apples are not like the apples you buy from the supermarket. The apple varieties we use to make our cider have special strains high in acids and tannins. They are exclusively grown for us in award winning Somerset Orchards less than 8 miles from our Cider Mill. The family regularly visit the orchards to ensure the crop is in tip top condition and is harvested to their exact desires. Since then they have continuously explored the world of cider with new recipes and flavours. At the heart of the cider creations, you will find a story of dedication, innovation and brotherhood. Just like their history, the flavours of the cider are well worth discovering, from marshmallow to toffee apple to wild fruits and cloudy lemonade. Brothers Cider said it has experienced “exceptional results” following the launch of new variants; Red Apple, Tutti Frutti and Marshmallow.

Marc Charles, Global Commercial Director, said: “There has been a sharp increase in cider sales across the off-trade category over the past few months and the industry has done a great job in rising to the challenge to satisfy demand. Again, this isn't an easy question to answer. Because ciders can be still, naturally sparkling or carbonated, the first impact on the tongue can deliver a different first taste. Ciders can be fresh, crisp, tangy, sweet, bold or elegant, earthy or light – or a complex combination of all taste sensations and lingering after tastes. At Trafalgar Foods, we look to forge strong relationships with distributors in various countries who have a good knowledge of the type of products. We are currently working with Brother’s Cider to supply and distribute their quality Cider in many flavours. The mix of cider apple varieties used account for the different flavours and tones found in the finished cider. Cider can mean different things to people. So, while it can taste sweetly of apples to one person, to someone else, they enjoy drinking cider for the sharp, acidic edge that pleasantly cuts through their thirst on a hot summers day. This year’s new variants: Red Apple, a sweeter style apple cider: Marshmallow; and Tutti Frutti; are experiencing strong sales alongside established flavours including Toffee Apple and Rhubarb and Custard. Toffee Apple is up 22.2% in value in recent months and Rhubarb and Custard 93.1% (IRI to w/e June 22, 2020). Apple Cider is naturally gluten-free and made from fermenting apple juice in a similar way to white wine, whereas beer is brewed from grains which are a source of gluten, hops and yeast. When choosing between beer or cider, for those with gluten sensitivity, Apple cider can be a better option. The recent launch of the ‘Curious Mix’ campaign has gained “serious traction” across social media platforms, according to the company.
