About this deal

After framework, the next most important consideration is the quality of the plastic cover – this is the very first thing that goes or gets ripped, always. In fact, one I had deliverd had a rip by the zip – if I am honest, overall I was happy so I didn’t return it: A polytunnel I bought and tested just recently had a rip in the seam from new! Polytunnels comprise a flexible cover which is stretched over a framework of metal hoops. The gardening experts at ManoMano recommend investing in a polytunnel if you want to start growing a large quantity of vegetables as these structures provide better ventilation. Polytunnels can also be used to protect your plants from frost. The main advantages of these structures are that they are easy to assemble, can be moved around and most importantly, are less expensive than traditional greenhouses. To add extra support the corners have got a lower cross brace, this is definitely needed on such a large area – the metal rungs or hoops if you prefer are broken into one metre centres and you’ve got the standard screw type bolts that will keep it all taunt no problem – this is pretty much ideal as allows 6 window slots all the way along. The 2.5m is pop riveted together which makes life all the simpler and is a no tool assembly. I like the zips and ties to hold your doors. It’s a pretty hard ask – to get much more for your money, this things less than a decent lunch and a bottle of wine.

Colour: White ; - Material: Galvanised Steel frame, 140g/m² PE gridding cloth ;-Overall Dimension: 4.5L x 2W x 2H (m) ;-Window Size: 46L x 39W (cm) ;-Door Size: 110W x 180H (cm) ;-Pipe Size: Φ18mm;-Accessory: 4 x pull ropes, 4 x ground nails ;-Custom Label: 845-073;-NOTE: Not suitable for bad weather conditions; What I’d use down the allotment: Garden Point Green Polytunnel or the BIRCHTREE depending on what size I need. Please do not use acidic farm chemicals to avoid chemical reactions with the alkaline PE cover, which result in breakageAccording to reports from gardeners, this good quality polytunnel can withstand high winds of around 40 mph, though of course these aren’t toocommon in the UK.

Measuring 6 x 2 m, this is a suitable choice for medium-size allotments. There are 2 metres of headroom inside the tunnel as well, so for many people – up to approximately 6’5”– there’s no need to stoop. No planning permission required. Like greenhouses, polytunnels don’t require planning permission. This makes them far less time consuming to set up than other outdoor structures. The video should serve as a prudent reminder buying is half the job or less, the other half is having this thing really deep rooted into the ground so here’s some tips to make sure yours doesn’t blow away: Anchor your polytunnel properly Some polytunnels have air vents/’windows’ on the sides, which can be opened or shut depending on the weather. Additional Sections In more unpredictable weather, the waterproof cover stops plants from getting over-watered, and the combination of the frame and cover helps protect plants from wind damage. When it comes to installing a greenhouse, it's important to take a few precautions. Your greenhouse should be set up in a wind-free spot with as much sun exposure as possible. Exposure to wind results in heat loss and will make your structure cooler.

Ideally, you want to place your polytunnel somewhere where it won’t be subjected to a lot of wind. Unfortunately, you may not have much choice – your allotment is in a fixed position, after all. Here you’ll find more information about positioning and reinforcing your polytunnel to protect it as much as possible. Positioning Your Polytunnel Like the VonHaus polytunnel, the frame is constructed from four galvanised steel hoops, which support a strong, reinforced plastic cover. One key difference between the VonHaus polytunnel and the VOUNOT polytunnel is the door. Where VonHaus have included a swinging door, fit with a metal frame, VOUNOT keep it simple with a roll-up door which is secured shut with a zip. I do think that the VonHaus swinging door is a nice feature, however it is somewhat pointless, and given the extra effort the door takes in assembly, as well as the premium in price which you pay for this extra, I think VOUNOT have got the right idea in keeping things nice and simple with a roll-up plastic door. If you’re after more of a greenhouse feel, opt for a walk-in polytunnel with an internal height of around 2 metres. With one of these models, you can walk around inside the structure and tend to your plants without having to stoop. This also gives you the opportunity to grow more plants, including fruit trees. Some tomato plants can also grow to around 2 metres.Unfortunately, it is pretty difficult (scratch that – impossible) to have a polytunnel delivered to your house fully constructed and ready to go. This means that self-assembly is required with a polytunnel, but I know how it is – life is busy and not everyone has hours to spare to put their brand spanking new polytunnel together. Likewise, not all of us are blessed with DIY skills, so ideally your new polytunnel will be fairly easy to put together. However, if you buy the BIRCHTREE as I have tested then they all rivet together without the need for any drills at all! They just snap together: BIRCHTREE Polytunnel just snaps together From Einhell to Outsunny, you'll find a wide selection of greenhouses, polytunnels, balcony greenhouses and walk in greenhouses from our outdoor brands. Whether you're looking for a timber or polycarbonate structure, read on for our tips to find the perfect greenhouse on a budget!

You may want to position the polytunnel’s door so that it does not frequently face oncoming wind. If it faces the direction that the wind come from, gusts may catch inside the polytunnel and attempt to lift it from its position. In the UK, the prevailing wind most commonly comes from the west or south west. Therefore, it may help to position the door of your polytunnel facing east or north east. Reinforcing Your PolytunnelAnother super clever and user-friendly feature of this product is the hot tape coverings on the metal frame. The hot tape essentially works by preventing the steel frame from heating up too much in hot and sunny weather, essentially protecting the plastic cover from melting or seriously deteriorating in hot weather. Very clever, VonHaus. There are four mesh windows that can be left covered to keep heat in, or, alternatively, the plastic covers can be rolled up to allow air through the mesh. This can aid with ventilation and stop unwanted damp from hanging around inside the polytunnel. Similarly, there is a roll up door which can either be close (with the zip fastening) or left open for access and ventilation.
