About this deal

On the more comedic side, Shaun of the Dead is an all-timer for the way it blends comedy and pathos, effortlessly switching between taking the piss out of zombies and exploring the drama around difficult decisions that have to be made in the name of survival. Days Later is also a good movie to watch while we’re at it. The second half doesn’t hold up nearly as well but the first half of the movie is great, particularly with the shots of a deserted, desolate London . In the Age of Sigmar, Soulblight Vampires serve Nagash as some of his foremost generals, a few among them even ruling vast swathes of Shyish as his Mortarchs . They lead vast hordes of skeletal warriors and freshly raised walking corpses into battle. The advance of the Soulblight Gravelords is heralded by the howls of Dire Wolves , even as the flapping wings of Fell Bats blot out the light – a sure sign that death has come for those who would stand against Nagash’s will. The Last of Us series is a critically-acclaimed misery simulator that follows the survivors of a fungal zombie apocalypse in their attempts to survive. The games are equal parts captivating and miserable to play and Naughty Dog does a great job creating the world you play in. REC and its inferior-but-still good US remake Quarantine are both solid, following a reporter and her cameraman as they’re trapped in a building following an incident where residents are infected with a disease that turns them into zombies.

Zone One by Coulson Whitehead follows a group of operatives patrolling Manhattan in a post-apocalypse America that has begun its restoration. The crew is tasked with sweeping the city and clearing out any remaining zombies on a mission to make the city inhabitable once again. The book asks the question of whether survival on the long-term is even possible. There’s nothing like the classic concept of the walking dead. Zombies run the gamut from completely harmless to extraordinarily dangerous, depending on the storytelling involved. Often times they are a grim reminder of death, the slow growth of an ideology within a society (which is always topical), and/or a tragic and cautionary tale. Other times they sing in musicals, but we don’t talk about those here. Hear ye, hear ye. I’m the Cursed City crier, and I’m here to tell you about the macabre beings that haunt the streets. If you hear the rasp of dull steel in dry soil and the rattle of bone dragging across the cobbles – run. The Gravekeeper can’t be reasoned with – neither can his minions. And if you hear me slurring my words on the way home from the tavern – don’t worry about it. It’s just allergies.” Steve: The Mortarch of Night can cast multiple spells, and a combination of the Heroic Recovery ability with The Hunger shared by all Vampires lets him heal up to 2D3 Wounds a turn, so he can stay alive and keep disrupting the enemy. If the enemy gets too close, he can disappear into the shadows using the Mortarch of Night ability to protect himself, then make the most of the Monster keyword by using Roar to stop enemies using command abilities in the following combat phase. Oh god why, again!? Thomas, you’re grinding my brain into dust with these repeated top table showdowns with Zombies. It’s two very prominent lists in the metagame that I’ve covered previously. Let’s move on. Result

Tyler: As my Soulblight Gravelords army continues to grow, I thought it was time to bulk out the “shambling” part of my shambling dead a bit. Part of the appeal of a Necromancer and Deadwalker-centric army is the visual impact of a bunch of zombies taking over the board. Last time I focused more on a Hero and an elite unit, so this time I decided to focus more on the core of the army. Seb Donley – Bloodlords: Bloodletter blobs with 3 Bloodmasters and a Blood Throne, grinding games out with combat activation shenanigans and model replenishment It’s a powerful list that is doing something a little bit different than Be’lakor + Blissbarb spam, skipping even the Epitome in favour of the cheaper Enrapturess for spell disruption. I love it. The Best of the Rest

Perhaps the biggest wrinkle that tips the scales here (lol), is that Be’lakor has crashed the party to shut down a unit for a turn/two turns. I figured as going second in round two is so important on Geomantic Pulse, Nathan would go first, shut down Kroak using Be’lakor and aim to give the turn away. Nathan can take the first turn, shuffle up the board to control the center and use Be’lakor to insulate against a double turn. Without his Slann able to do much in both hero phases (assuming he fails the 3+), John will struggle to do too much and gain momentum to push into the mid game and take over the board. Cursed City will see you and your party fight through hordes of undead beasties and vampiric lords in a series of modular scenarios across the fallen city of Ulfenkarn, before facing off against vampiric lord Radukar the Rat, who cursed the city.

Artefact: Luneth’s Lamp (Can banish invocations and I’m +2 to all unbind/banish rolls. I hope you don’t like casting) Have you got any tournaments coming up in your calendar? How are you feeling about your prep? I’m curious how people feel about this period of 2-3 weeks, where we know a battlescroll is coming and thus a lot of the most egregiously strong stuff will be nerfed… but that’ll happen after list submission deadlines and thus won’t help in said tournament.

Also by Max Brooks, The Zombie Survival Guide is an interesting look at what surviving a zombie apocalypse would actually entail, and talks about some of the more interesting dynamics you might not have considered, such as destroying the staircase in a house to prevent zombies from following you up.

The battletome’s cover art might also hint towards another, upcoming Soublight centrepiece unit. Look to the left of the central Vampire Lord, and you’ll spy what appears to be an undead dragon. Nothing has been confirmed, but this might be a subtle tease at an updated vampiric dragon mount. Maybe. Dead Island is a pretty solid entry into the video game canon, having players fight off zombies as they attempt to escape a resort island. A Duke Nukem Forever-esque sequel to it was announced like 8 years ago.

James Anderson – Jaws of Mork: A mixed Squig list that runs Hoppers, Herd, Bounderz and even a Loonboss on Mangler Squigs The “normal” bits of skin then get a very watery layer of 1:1 Druchii violet and Pallid Wych flesh, and an extreme highlight of Pallid Wych flesh. Any mass of scar tissue or area I want to be a bit more disgusting will get a 1:1 mix of Kislev flesh and Ratskin, then pure Kislev and roughly applied lines and blobs of 1:1 Wych and Kislev.Next, do your non-flesh colors. I used Balor Brown for the hair, Warpstone Glow for the eyes, and Wazdakka Red for the tastefully placed rags.
