About this deal

With the Navy – Merchant Marine Memorial facing toward the Potomac river and Washington monument it makes it a great spot to watch sunrise from in DC. When visiting in the morning you can park at the marina across the street and it’s just a short walk from the parking lot. The memorial is also surrounded by tulips that typically bloom in the spring and are worth a visit. Additional around the 4th of July there are massive American flags in the same spot. Union Station on Google Maps

The area is great for spotting local wildlife and birdwatching. Keep an eye out for many of the 190 bird species found in the park, such as the elusive dark-eyed junco and the grey catbird. 10. Sugarloaf Mountain A scenic summit just a half-hour drive from the city. ( Photo by Mr.TinDC / CC BY-ND 2.0) Another spot on the Tidal Basin that is hard to miss is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The Memorial features a large stone sculpted to look like Martin Luther King, Jr. When walking around the grounds you’ll also be able to see the Jefferson Memorial across the Tidal Basin.

The National Arboretum is a great outdoor space to shoot (plus it’s free!). From the Capitol Columns,Bonsai trees on display, and large fields it doesn’t get much better. The Arboretum is also perfect for a picnic or an engagement photoshoot. There are also a few trails to explore in the Arboretum including collections of plants from all over the world. We suggest taking Scott’s Run Outer Loop instead. On this, you’ll cross over two creeks with stepping stone bridges before arriving at the Scott’s Run Waterfall. 7. Maryland Heights Trail, Potomac River One for the history buffs! Just outside of DC is the stunning Air Force Memorial next to the Pentagon. There is a little parking lot here and I’ve never had trouble parking here at sunset. It offers great views of the city if you have a zoom lens plus photos of the memorial itself are fantastic if you have a wide lens. First and foremost, the logistics of getting to the cemetery were well-managed. The proximity to Washington D.C., made it easily accessible, and public transportation options were plentiful. The signage and directions within the cemetery were clear, ensuring that visitors could navigate their way around without any difficulties. From the steps of the memorial you can also get fantastic photos of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. I love going down to the water and photographing the Washington Monument with epic reflections right against the water. Sunset at the Reflecting Pool facing the Lincoln Memorial Lincoln Memorial at Night Inside the Lincoln Memorial Lincoln Memorial on Google Maps The collection here is unique and inspirational , containing touchstones of the most inspirational moments in human history, but limited by the exhibition space and feels cramped. Sharing that space with such a crowd is tiring. One of my favorite times to visit the Friendship Arch is at night to capture light streaks passing in front of the arch. When you’re in Chinatown you can also take a short walk to CityCenterDC and take a photo of the metro station. If you’re planning your shoot far in advance here’s a Washington DC sunrise calendar. This is helpful for finding sunrise & sunset times, civil twilight, nautical twilight and even day length far in advance. Most people take the Heritage Trail directly to the waterfall. If you do, you’ll be missing out on lots of scenic routes, creek crossings, and quiet forest trails along the way. This was my first time being in DC since I was in elementary school. It was extremely awesome to see the Capitol building. It was ironic that I had just watched Olympus Has Fallen on TV in my hotel just a day prior.
