About this deal

One of my favorite scenes in particular here is the night sequences in the Arctic where Clark discovers the alien craft. Superman 75th Anniversary Animated Short (HD, 2:03) – This two-minute quickie kind of has it all including animated takes of Christopher Reeves and Henry Cavill as well as various incarnations of the Superman character as he appeared in the comic pages. Despite the varying filming styles – the otherworldly opening gambit; the faux-gritty introduction to Clark, and the world-shaking conclusion – the presentation itself never falters, merely adapting to the varying colour timing. Atmos track will make your presence speakers work out like crazy and crispy clean image is brilliantly enhanced by visually stunning HDR implementation. Don’t expect no huge Justice League tie-in like they did for Avengers in all the latest Marvel films.

Rear activity is equally exciting, employing the surrounds and overheads fairly often and bursting forth with enthusiasm. From the multiple ships and planes blasting by and Zimmer’s score pounding from behind to the voices of children Clark hears when he locks himself in the school closet or rescues them from their inevitable demise after their bus crashes into the water, you’ll never want to watch a front-heavy comedy movie ever again. Although it starts off very promisingly, and initially appears to be investing in characters rather than just empty spectacle, Man of Steel still, eventually, devolves into tiresome banal CG action.

Strong Characters, Legendary Roles-Explore the legendary roles of the Superman canon and how they have evolved in this new iteration of the Superman story. I think he did a fine job here too and flexed as much emotion and intensity as he could, but I also feel like he did not have a lot to work with here too in regards to the somewhat weak screenplay. But rather than simply teaching Clark good wholesome values, Jonathan also cautions him not to reveal his true nature to the world until he must, because once he does, everything will change – not just for Clark but for the entire human race, which humanity might not be ready for. It worked in Batman Begins because it felt cohesive and formulaic, but I don’t think it was extremely effective here that much. It’s not as good as Nolan’s three Batman films, but it’s very much a start in the right direction that I can now appreciate after seeing it six times.

Subtitle options are even more plentiful, with English, German, and Italian (all for the hearing impaired), as well as French, Castilian Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Swedish, and Turkish. The interviews and featurettes literally take over the screen and you’ll be hard pressed if you ever wanted to hear any of the movie.

Amy Adams manages to do something unexpected – make her Lois an active, important participant in the story, who’s also the key to Crowe’s Jor-El remaining active in the story too. However, it's worth noting that blacks are not always the strongest while also coming off too strong in some areas, almost reaching the point of crush. It kind of took away whatever humanity Zack achieved with the first two acts as it was just in your face nonsensical Hulk-like smashing action. I’m sure we’ll see an eventual double dip or repackage with other DC universe titles in the future with Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman on the horizon, but for now I’m really happy with what we have here. Equally important, if you’re a fan of the Dark Knight trilogy like I am, you’ll be stoked that we’re also in good hands in the score department with the inclusion of Hans Zimmer filling the pretty big shoes of John Williams from the previous films.I still have to say this is my second best Superman movie, and for an obvious reason which many of you may agree with me. All-Out Action (HD, 26 min) — Looks at the rigorous physical training of the actors, the challenges in the stunt performances and some attention on the stage design and practical effects. Strong Characters, Legendary Roles (HD, 26 min) — Generally focused on this modernized reboot of the comic superhero, the discussion is on the changes made to the character while touching on his history and legacy throughout the years.

Zimmer, in my opinion, is the new John Williams in the modern world (although you can never completely replace Williams’ signature masterpieces) and no one knows his craft better than Hans.Personally, I love that the filmmakers would be so bold to do this — to have the otherwise seemingly perfect Übermensch (the philosophical concept that essentially inspired Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster) question his very existence in an imperfect world. So, on the whole, Man of Steel is far from a bad movie, and a solid enough kick-start to the DC big league. I highly recommend this movie for everyone, especially those in love with grungy DC theme Zack Snyder applies to his movies. Warner Home Video brings 'Man of Steel' to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as a two-disc combo pack with a flyer for a Digital HD Copy.
