About this deal

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) studied architecture in London and she became one of the most highly renowned and revered architects in the world. It's a collection that can be flipped through for pleasure or studied for a greater understanding on abstraction in design.

She saw beauty and art in nature and in building and couldn't pass a construction site without stopping to sketch it. This book strikes a nice balance between being rich in details from Hadid's life while maintaining a focus on the philosophical/artistic underpinnings of her creations. Zaha Hadid was a revolutionary architect, who for many years built almost nothing, despite winning critical acclaim.

Leaving her home in Baghdad, she studied architecture in London and made quite a splash with her unconventional building designs. You learn all about the talented architect but most importantly you understand the perseverance it took to achieve the success that she did!

This practice is driven by the development of rigorous interfaces between natural topographies, human-made systems and innovative technologies that have resulted in almost 1000 landmark projects across the globe. I feel like this would work better as a reference book for a school project or something than it does as a book to read. Soon, Zaha designed an art gallery in the United States, and from there, she was jet-setting around the world designing projects for housing and public use. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the architect’s life. From her early sharply angled buildings to later more fluid architecture that made floors, ceilings, walls, and furniture part of an overall design, this essential introduction presents key examples of Hadid’s pioneering practice. Her sudden death in 2016 shocked the global architecture community and the public alike, inspiring a commitment to maintain her passion to create built spaces and works that are as unique as they are endearing to a fascinated global following. In this book from the highly acclaimed Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the incredible life of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

At the back of this book there is a facts and photo section to support the story told (great for parents and older children hungry for a few more details). Beautifully illustrated and lovingly designed, worthy of approval from Zaha herself, this biography/picture book celebrates the life and designs of architect Zaha Hadid. As the first woman to win both the Pritzker Prize for architecture and the RIBA Royal Gold Medal, Hadid broke the rules and re-defined the game, despite some saying her designs were unbuildable. His photographs of buildings by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor ignited a debate on buildings, images and history when they were first shown. In addition to Source Books in Architecture, his writings have appeared in Log, Dialogue, Loud Paper, and elsewhere.Zaha Hadid/BMW Central Building", the seventh volume in the "Source Books in Architecture" series, provides a comprehensive look at this instant modern masterpiece. Why do we argue so bitterly about sofas and pictures - and can differences of taste ever be satisfactorily resolved?
