About this deal

Spanning a number of years and different places, yet again Steel takes a cosmopolitan view to her featured locations. A story of family, trauma, the past, distance, escape, perseverance, love, ambition and hope, Invisible is a novel of self-belief. She is ignored by her parents, unprotected and unloved she learned to “live safe is to hide from the danger” and she took the veil of being invisible.

Investing in the company seven years later made Brandon a lot of money too, with their newest products and his other investments. As with most Danielle Steel novels of late, this was largely a miss than a hit, but if you are a diehard fan of this popular US author’s work you will probably appreciate Invisible. When he walked her home one night after work, to the place where she rented a small squalid room, she told him that her father had been American, but she had never known him. He left Paris, as so many other soldiers did, with unforgettable memories of his time in Paris, leaving behind a baby he knew nothing about and never would.Having no other relatives, she was sent to an orphanage in Quimper, where she stayed until she was eighteen. With themes of neglect, estrangement, persistence, forgiveness, acceptance, tragedy and accomplishments, Invisible does cross some interesting areas. I understand that the author has a good reason for setting up Antonia and Hamish, as he’s a father figure for her, but it just didn’t sit right to me. It is a dazzling opportunity but a terrifying one, as it strips her of the camouflage that made her feel safe. Talk about a disfunctional family, mom and dad were a total mess, and it is truly amazing that Antonia turned out so completely good and normal.

I was wrong and found that many others have the same opinions on the writing and some even stating that the writing is "a classic Danielle Steel. Her father has become remote with Antonia and she feels as if he can't wait for her to go off to College. In Antonia she has created a unique character who is able to thrive despite her cold mother and then her father's neglect to show her any warmth. The characters are still likable, I was disappointed the best friend all but disappeared about halfway through the book. He was one of hundreds or even thousands of young American soldiers who had left women and babies in Paris, and all over Europe. The hula hoop was cheap to make and had become an enormous fad, and had already made the company a lot of money. How Antonia grew to be her own person, and didn’t let her childhood and the treatment from her parents sway her. She tried living alone in Paris, but couldn’t afford to stay there with a child on the way and no one to help her, and shortly before Fabienne was born, Marceline went to live with her grandmother in Brittany, where Fabienne grew up.
