About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

If your board is going to run so hot that you need an extra 5-degree reduction, it’s probably time to find another board or case solution altogether. Gamers nexus does an in-depth video in the correct mounting of radiators and should be watched before installing your own. The Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 is what we’re reviewing, although variants at 120, 240, and 360 are also prominently featured online. This is an excellent solution as the cable management is far cleaner than what a typical end-user could achieve. That said, this does reduce temperature and it does work, and in cases that are really hot and closed-off, with a 3950X or higher-power chip, with overclocking, and with a VRM which is undercooled and overheated, this would be a value add.Arctic’s Liquid Freezer II incorporates a small fan atop the CPU block, which helps dissipate heat and cool the VRMs surrounding the CPU.

To still allow for optimal heat dissipation, we have developed a special mounting kit for the Liquid Freezer II that allows the cold plate to be placed directly over the hotspot of the CPU. This means that a larger amount of water can be used in the circuit, and the cooling surface can be significantly increased. Note that the best frequency doesn’t mean it’s the coolest – it becomes more touchy, since frequency jumps around to begin with, and because a better cooler means Precision Boost 2 will kick into higher frequency, which creates more heat. The water block has a PWM-controlled pump for cooling performance proportional to the heat generated, and a 40mm fan next to the pump to also cool adjacent VRM chips. The all-in-one cooling handles the entire cooling requirements — even of the most powerful processors from Intel ® and AMD ®. mounting kit for AM4 works well, and the fans are pre-installed with a pretty nice cable management. These are packaging revisions, not the revisions of the actual pump assembly, there are 2 of these - most reviewers demonstrated the rev that reported pump speed, only GN went back later and did a comparison of the review sample and a newer retail sample and demonstrated differences to the cabling for the vrm fan and that it now reports fan rpm. However, the comparison to pump block units from competitors such as NZXT, Fractal, and ASUS (some of which also have VRM cooling fans) makes it clear just how oversized and plastic Arctic’s design is. We’ll also show results at 125W for those who prefer whisper-quiet cooling, at the cost of some performance.
