I needed the value of the burnt resistor which I found on another site but the damned thing still didn't work so I took another link to get here. I bought one of these a few years back to use in my garage - immediate light before switching on the mains lights ! It seems that the electro filter capacitor in the charger dropped its bundle causing the emitter resistor in the oscillator for the coil to overheat and burn out.

My problem is that the resistor is now black and grey with no colour bands so I have no idea of its value. The motion sensor picks them up as they open their bedroom door and illuminates the landing and almost to the bottom of the stairs. Don't get caught short stumbling over in the dark on your way to the bathroom (we've all been there); this nightlight will power on, illuminating your route without the need to touch a button! I am reluctant to try various values as the charger circuit is at potentially mains voltage and the value is probably quite critical due to significant load changes when the torch unit is removed and replaced. The torch function is great for those 'routing around in the dark; trying-to-find-your-phone-charger moments' when you don't want to disrupt your household, and, it's great for the little-ones who can grab the torch to do their exploring!
